What are your favorite book stores in chennai?

I am interested in knowing about the ones that let you take your time and look around and browse the books, like Barnes & Noble, but feel free to list any that you like to go to.

When I was in Chennai, the two most famous were:
- Landmark (Near Gemini Circle, they also opened one in Spencer's in Mount Road)
- Higginbothams (opposite to LIC)

I think there was also one more opened in Catherdral road, probably its name is Crossroads or something like that.

All these meet your requirements.

The Landmark now has 3 locations- incl. Spencer's Plaza and Citi Centre - the original one still has some charm when it comes to just books, the new ones are good as well.

Odyssey is also very good if you are in the Adyar area. They have an outlet in Anna Nagar also, I think.

The third chain is Crossword w/ 2 locations - Cathedral Road and Kuppu Arcade in T-Nagar. I like their T-Nagar shop better. They have a decent sale on right now.

Try the libraries - Easwari is unbeatable on all counts, Eloor is convenient if you are in T-Nagar.

One option for online books is firstandseconds.com. But I usually comparison shop with Amazon before buying there. Sometimes getting it shipped from the US is less expensive.

We have bought a lot of books through Amazon. Most come in excellent shape. Customs guys don't bother with books, apparently.
