When digital cameras and camcorders were first introduced I used to do a lot of research to buy these things. But, now the technology is mature and almost all cameras on the market are packed with specification beyond what we need. Who needs 15 Mega pixel and things like that? Nowadays I just pick the one on sale from Frys and it works fine,

Lets say you're in the market and had a budget of $350. Which one would you pick and from where? I'll just go with your choice since you're the guru.:))
I hardly use camcorders and cameras. My wife likes all this photo-shoto stuff, and this is for her use. I have a canon one but its bulky to carry around. Memsaab ko koi halka waala chahiye. Jeb halka karti hain hamesha.

I bought "Canon SD870IS" just 2 days back from here. Deal is "Canon Powershot SD870IS 8.0mp 3.8x Wide-Angle Zoom lens Digital Camera - Black + FREE 1GB SD Card » for $248.95 at AbesOfMaine.com"

I have the same camera, till I noticed my friends snaps from his DSLR was remarkably superior in indoor shooting with much sharper focus. I have always been against the bulky SLR cameras as I am atypical point and shoot and ignorant about all the aperture,exposure....
But the photos from his camera convinced me and the education of bokeh effect convinced me to go for prosumer if not DSLR cameras.
I bought Canon 20is and liked the grip and the outdoor photo quality, but soon saw another review which takes better photos in indoors (low light) also which is where I shoot most of the times and reluctantly exchanged for it. Was not too happy with the grip of Panasonic DMC-FZ35, but very pleased with the photo qualities.

My friend and I are going through many online tutorials to take better pics with our Canon DSLRs. The more I read, the more I realize, I need a better lens. My friend gave up and got a L series fixed aperture lens. Same camera, same subject, phenomenal difference with better lenses. I put this borrowed L series 24-70 f2.8 on my 6 year old Digital Rebel, and was amazed at the indoor pics.
I had told my wife the DSLR was a lifetime investment. What was I thinking?? My phone has more mega pixels than my DSLR. That sucks big time.

Can't comment on f2.8, f3.5 etc, way over my grade level.
However while researching for my Panny FZ35, FZ100 came out with higher mega pixels and every one panned it. Companies change their sensors for higher MB losing the sharpness/quality, hence went back to lower MB FZ35.

I'm looking to buy a camcorder. I have a Panasonic Lumix camera, and am not impressed with the pics that come out of it. My older canon was much better.
