Network Router Problem

Post by soomdy »

I have Netgear wgt624 108 MBPS wireless router.
For last few months it worked without any problem.
Now all of a sudden my wireless connection keeps dropping.
On a closer look, I realized my router's all the 4 green lights go on and off ever few seconds continuosly.

I tried resetting to factory standards and then setting my router again. IT worked for a few minutes and again I lost the wireless connection.
I have confirmed it is router problem only.

What can be the problem and how do I resolve it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The router should have been sold with a software CD. The software should have been installed on your PC to manage/ configure the router. Access that software application and check the various tabs. One of them is likely to have a firmware update button. Alternatively, you could try checking the vendor's website.

If all of that fails, and if Netgear is managing your connection, try switching to "Use Windows to Manage Wi-Fi". Also, try resetting your cable/ DSL modem.

In your internet browser, delete everything from address bar and instead type 192.168.0.1 , then click on go or press enter.

When the page loads it will ask you for a username and pw, try username admin and password as password. If its accepted then netgear page will load.

on the left hand side there will be a column with lot more options. One of the options is router upgrade, when u click on it i will ask you to browse for a file (that you have to download from netgear website for your particular router).
Thats how you flesh the firmware.

Other then that try changing the wireless channel for your wireless connection, and als try using windows zero configuration, Please feel free to ask if unsure of anything.

MeraNaseebR2I;68099Did you buy a new cordless phone in the Holiday sale?
If yes, the frequencies might be colliding hence the drop in WiFi connectivity.

Change transmission channel. Channel 1, 6 or 11 is the safest.
Upgrade to latest firmware. Download firmware from Netgear site and follow the posted instructions.[/quote]

No. I have my 2.8 GZ vonage phone just next to my wireless router and didn;t have any problem for last 6 months. I was planning to upgrade to 5.8 GZ this holiday season but ddin;t find any good deal:).

Tnx.

Thank you all for replying.

I have a hunch that my wireless connection broke bcos of Zonealarm that I recently loaded on my notebook. Yesterday I uninstalled Zonealarm and after that I was able to see and use my wireless connection.
Now my question is once I again load zonealarm on my laptop, how do I make it excuse my wireless connection?

Also please answer the other questions that I asked before. I am pretty sure I or somebody else will find this info very useful sometime in the future.

TIA,

check and see if you can set up rules in zone alram to allow wireless traffic.
i never used zone alarm, but any firewall should have options to allow or block traffic based on users preference.

You are most welcome. Unfortunately all these changes ammount to nothing if there is a hardware fault but this is how you can change the channel.

In your internet browser, delete everything from address bar and instead type 192.168.0.1 , then click on go or press enter.

When the page loads it will ask you for a username and pw, try username admin and password as password. If its accepted then netgear page will load.

on the left hand side there will be a column with lot more options. Then click on option called "wireless settings" , from where you can change wireless channel. Then click on apply changes at the bottom.

You do not make any other changes on your laptop for channel, it will connect with new frequency automatically.

Wireless zeron config can be turned on by following instructions in this link.
http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/2007.html .

I hope that helps.

Regards.
