Query on flying back to USA to rap-up work commitments

Post by sureshsatyam »

Hi,

My wife & kids are already in India. Planning to sell the house and send the household stuff in 20ft container by mid-September 2011. The shipping agent mentioned i have to be present in India to get the clearance of the container at India port(Chennai).

After i get the clearance of the container, I have to fly back to USA to rap-up work commitments. My question "Is anyone aware of any restrictions to fly back to USA immediately after i get the clearance of the container".. I don't think so but what to get it cleared as this was bothering me..

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can safely travel out of India after clearing the container as there are no restrictions on travel

if you have owned the motorcycle for more than one year and have the supporting documents (purchase invoice, title, insurance policies etc) then only should you import this to India. Duty rates are pretty high (almost 140%) on motorcycles plus the cost of shipping, clearing etc.

Customs are quick to impose penalties/fines for the smallest issue with any paperwork and especially if one year ownership is not clearly proved.

Trust this helps
