Green card and REP timeline question

Just closing this out with some information from my internal company lawyers who gave this an all-clear to this approach with the usual caveats (no guarantees, take proof of intent to reside etc.).

120V 60 Hz TV with 220 --> 110 V 50 Hz step-down transformer

Hi folks - Quick question...I am assuming this should be fine but wanted to check if I am missing something. Planning to use the a step-down transformer for our TV etc. but the only issue is the transformers all seem to be for 50 Hz whereas the TV etc. are listed as 60 Hz. Will that be an issue?

The India Experiment

@roxstar - Thanks for being blunt. I like blunt - it saves a lot of time. :) Regarding the mindset - it's always a double-edged sword. With an "experiment" mindset, we might be able to put up with things better as well thinking there is light at the end of the tunnel and then slowly perhaps get used ...

The India Experiment

@My Roots - Yes, I do understand that the "experiment" will be an expensive one...maybe the most expensive one we'll ever do, especially if you take into account the reduction in savings that will happen. Wonder if anyone has taken a stab at quantifying this with some assumptions put in (pay in US ...

3 years on REP Strategy

Thanks folks for the thoughts. At this point, I think the summary seems to be that it might be possible, but is risky. We will likely not go down this road and take the safer option of applying for REP, doing fingerprinting and then leaving US. After 2 years if we feel we need more time to decide ...

The India Experiment

Thanks for the replies. @suba - I will open another thread in financial forum. @hope4best - The house selling comes into play if we decide to stay in India for good after 2 years. If we come back to US then of course there are no issues and that is why we don't want to sell right away. My question ...

3 years on REP Strategy

You are right...6 months is the "Safe" period for returning on a green card without any issues. But with certain conditions I believe upto a year is possible, though of course with some risk since it gets subjective. In our case, we would continue to hold our house and make mortgage payments etc. so ...

3 years on REP Strategy

Thanks. So basically Step #2 would be changed to "Fly into US on July 1st 2013 on a 45 day vacation and apply for REP". By Aug 15th the fingerprinting should be done and person can leave for India and receive the REP at the consulate. That should work then?

3 years on REP Strategy

Is there any issue with the following strategy to maximize the legal time on REP. [LIST=1] [*]R2I with green card only, say Nov 1, 2012 [*]Apply for REP from India after 8 months (July 1, 2013) [*]Once fingerprinting appointment is received (say for end of July 2013), book a trip to US and get done ...
