Thought of starting a new thread to share shopping ideas, related to r2i or otherwise.
Just wanted to get the majenta perspective on this, maybe we can have a separate thread for combined inputs.

I'm planning to get some stuff before r2i which would be better quality/ cheaper in US than India. Or somethings which would be easier to get here than in India.
Some stuff that I've already got are -
Kids clothing/shoes (I dont go for expensive stuff, since kids outgrow these so fast, and the for a given price I found the quality to be much better in US).
220 V kitchen appliances - waffle maker, also planning to get a cuisinart smart stick kind of thing.
Snapware Glass containers (I'm not a great fan of plastic, and these are stain proof, m.oven proof etc)
Kids scooters - never checked the availability for these in India, probably its there too.
Got couple of questions, appreciate if someone can provide inputs.
Area Rugs - Are these cheaper in India or US? And would it need a lot of cleaning in Indian conditions - dust, moisture etc.
Pearls/Other Semi Percious Stones - I've got a big collection of these which I got from wholesale shops here, no clue on price comparison with India and where the wholesale markets for these are in India.
I'll probably keep adding to the list, gals please contribute your shopping lists. It doesn't matter if you are r2ing or not, if you found some thing interesting please post here. I for one love to window shop online. :)

I think the rugs in India and other parts of Asia are available at cheaper prices. I would say kids toys, books and clothes. Atleast in Hyderabad, I did not find the variety available here.

I just got a reason to shop :), we just shipped our stuff, and the box in which I'd packed all my dresses accidentaly got included in that. Hubby is extremely happy because thats one box less to carry with us, but now I've to land there and straightaway go and get some clothes. Not bad, but that is a hassle I was trying to avoid. So if any of you gals have suggestions for not so expensive places in Bangalore - whitefield, please contribute.

Marathalli area has few outlet stores, and have heard there are some malls around of recent late. That might be your first choice for emergency. There are quite a few on Airport road too...but again it might be bit expensive.
If you have little more time, visiting Shivaji Nagar / Commercial streets may give you plenty of choices for variety. I think bargaining is needed.
If cost effectiveness is more imp than Jay nagar 5th block area might be good. You might get good stuff for decent price.

Thanks rimjhim, I will go for the cost effective ones for now, but not sure how much bargaining I can do, kind of out of touch with that now. :)

If yoo don't mind strage looks of sellers, start with most ridiculous price :)
Just Kidding... Majestic area is the best place for such attempts.

Since I wouldn't understand the words that go with the looks, I guess it's worth a try. Majestic is more than an hour from whitefield isn't it? I'd gone there last year while on vacation, probably I'll explore around marathahalli some and report back here on how it goes..:)

Coach bags any one? Everytime I go to mall, I am tempted when I go near coach outlet shop. But walk away thinking next time :)
Do you consider that brand name accessories are a must or no? :)

Rbee: Like you, I've been tempted plenty of times. But I am reading this book Cheap: The high cost of discount culture (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZNJWGS?ie=UTF8&tag=jpin) and discovered that Coach (like a bunch of other "luxury goods manufacturers") specifically makes lower cost lower quality items for its factory stores! So its not the same quality bag marked for $1000 at the regular stores and sold at the factory stores for a deeply discounted $200 :-)
So, my new motto is to buy things that look durable and that I like, without considering at the brand name.
