Saree....

Once or many a times in our lives, we would land up wearing a saree. Whether we wish or no, we wear it and whether we want or no it adds to our grace. J

We had a “How to drape a saree” session today which I attended. Output of the same are:

Saree attire tips:

Always tie the petticoat on the right side. This helps you to tighten/loosen it easily.

Insist your tailor to stitch nearer hooks on your blouse. Have a shoulder strap

For a normal saree pattern, tuck up the palloo a little below shoulder on the back. This will keep it intact and avoid it from slogging downwards in the front.

Always have one of the legs free for movement, be it any kind of a saree. Meaning, the first whirl of the saree should keep one leg free (right in case of maharastrian and begali types and left in case of gujurati and other ulta types).

Keep the discussion going, Gals. Was in a mall today morning. There was a 50% off for first 50 cuctomers at Old Navy and used it :-) what to wear at home this summer is solved :-)
Tried the Jeans as suggested by Diva but didn't like it. I really like Express Jeans these days. I have a boot cut and Skinny and happy with both. Plan to get one flare.
Other brands I liked in the past, HilFiger, Lauren, DKNY, GAP. Hated ( for jeans ) Levis, Calvin Klein, NY and Company.

I have a question. Have a family function and couple of weddings to attend to. My silk sarees and matching blouses have been decade old and the pattern of the blouse is outdated. Sarees have not been worn more than couple of times. How to make the blouses to look current? If you make the sleeves short without cutting, it looks not nice and not just the sleeves, the pattern itself looks old. So should I get new blouses? But they won't match the original sarees especially the heavy silk ones..

What do you all do?

Get new blouses stitched, no use altering existing ones. I have a couple of them like that too. Now-a-days, you'll get very good material and tailors have come up with innovations by ripping the border, jari etc from old ones and applying it on new ones seamlessly. Try dori style. My MIL suggested that to me, and chided me for having such old(conservative) patterns :-)

RRS, I agree what anwesha has suggested. If the zari is still good and fresh kind then they can be used for the new blouses too. Other alternative is getting golden shade color blouse that can in general go with other heavy sarees, or something like black with zari border.

What is the latest trend in handbags in India. One of my cousins in India told me this

"is it possible to get a hand bag big with one zip, the shiny ones that is fashion here.The size bigger than the normal hand bags, smaller than shopping bags"

I recently brought a regular sized handbag with short handles for myself. Now when I read this cousins mail, I am wondering if I should get a bigger one too.

Some years back I visited india with the long strap handbag only to realise everyone there had moved on to the short strap, tiny handbags.

Any ideas.

I am out of touch with latest handbags. I know white was very much in fashion few years ago. I had bought a nice Nine West that time with one strap. Now Not sure what is trendy.

Visit the trendiest mall in your area and see what people are sporting. I will just look at Macys handbags and buy smthg that I like and comfortale with.

The handbag that I currently use is white with multi color - Bought for $20 from on a visit to NY city. Its very big and more like a diaper bag :-)
Comes in handy to keep my water bottle and sanck for kids.

The other one a black leather one - bought from Sears to gift in India but cudn't take it. Its a medium size and I use it sometimes. Will work good for take to work.

I have a shiny one from Aldo that I use sometimes mainly for parties and/or visit to friends house.

The one more I use is very small, just enough to hold wallet, cellphone, keys. When I am just dropping kids off/grocery shopping, then I will use it.

Gone are the days when I used to sport a diff bag almost every day to work :-)

Costco has something very similar , and I have seen it at my local costco. It costs about 40$ at costco.
It is definitely big , but looks good and shiny.
