My IL’s pet peeve is to comment on kids’ traits. It is funny to hear her say it. Anything good is a characteristic inherited from their father (her son that is) and anything negative is from me.
Kid puts toy back in its place after playing, cleans up, puts chair back after eating at the table gets a comment – ‘very well disciplined at a young age, just like your daddy’
Kid throws a tantrum, shows resentment - that is something like mom :)
The other thing I have noticed is that IL (mostly MIL) is in denial if the looks of child resemble their mom (their DIL). Sometimes it sounds funny how MIL convinces herself by saying, kids change as they grow older :-)
MV, are you missing magenta corner yet?

My MIL was suffering from heart ailments for last few days and was hospitalised. The house was not the same without her. There are few things that I don't like in her...well there are more number of things I don't like in my mom but I don't complaint about my mom so I tend to not complaint about my MIL too. But most probably she will be home tomorrow....I hope she comes home soon....the house will be more lively with her presence.
1 thing is for sure: I am going to watch her diet like a hawk...whether she likes it or not!

M?09, good to know your MIL is doing fine. Parents & ILs like it when someone watches their diet, they feel cared for.

Gals - We are planning to go to India this winter or next summer and I suggested to hubby why don't we rent some service apartment this time during our stay in Hyderabad for about 3 weeks. In-laws are old and suffering with some health issues and they downsized and moved to a 2 bed apartment. It is quite comfortable for them both but inconvenient when all of us go. I was suggesting, let's rent a bigger service apartment, 3 or 4 bed and in-laws can come and stay with us during that time. SIL who stays in Hyderabad can also join us whenever she can.
Hubby is not sure how his parents will take, especially his dad. He thinks it will hurt his ego that his house is not good enough or something. He thinks he can explain easily to his mother and she will understand but not very sure of his dad.
My parents home is quite convenient but hubby doesn't want to stay there overnight.
What do you all think, we should just adjust for the 3 weeks and not hurt anyone or go our route thinking people should understand our inconvenience?

Would you be in the house for entire 3 weeks? I assume you would probably go and also stay with your parents (the husband might not come along).
I think a little adjustment will help to keep everyone happy. It is just matter of 3 weeks.
But
If you think about it other way, Your inlaws might welcome some change if they move with you in the serviced apartment for 3 weeks or It can be inconvenient for them from moving out of their familiar setting (they are old) for your convenience....
Don't know....Its a tough call. Your DH must know his parents well. If I am in your shoes, I would probably do as my DH says.
