My son is going to turn two soon and I am planning to invest two
thousand dollars for his future education or any other needs that he may
have in the future.
What is the best way to do this ? Please note that I am planning to r2i in 4
years .

May be I-Bonds might not be a bad idea because of the time frame. Stock market is too risky if the timeline is 4 years.

1000 $ IN vtsmx and 1000 $ in VGTSX and forget that you invested for next 20 years.

Why not. U never know a $ might become 100 Rs or more in another 20 years from now. Will provide some diversification for you and 2000 $s shouldn't be a that big deal.

I know for sure ppl leaving some of their 401ks here. I think shouldn;t be a problem leaving money outside 401 k here but may be Gurus or 1-800-Vanguard can confirm this. If u call ,please let us know.

As simple as replacing with ETFs like VTI ( for VTSMX) , VWO ( Emerging markets).
