Thanks for the link..
It sounds like, whoever already got OCI and their passports got cancelled in that process, do not take any further actions..

Does any one know who has to fill the second part ,sign and send copy of the passport? does it have to be a different person who is an Indian national?
Also does minors also fill in this and send $175 per person.
looks like Indian republic is working like BANANA republic to make some fast bucks:(

If minors had India citizenship in the past, they need to send $175. If you were never Indian, there is no renunciation.

We received OCI couple of years back and canceled Indian passports at the time of OCI but no certificate was issued. Is the surrender certificate required?

Since it is already cancelled, i am not sure at what point the surrender certificate would be useful. I dont believe it is needed in this case. I cannot see anything in CGNY website as well to that effect.
What seems absurd is the new law takes into effect for even in process applications. That sounds comical, cheap and ridiculous. Is this the practice in other countries as well ?

We did not have one and it was not asked for.

Pursual of CGSFO gives the idea that those who obtained OCI earlier can obtain the surrender certificate without additional fee as long as it was done on time
http://www.cgisf.org/renunciation/ricscpenalty.html New York is silent on this , hoping some innocent folks will mail in the $175.

Cant understand why 2 consulates within the same country cannot have a common web page.
