We are in Houston and are relocating to Bangalore or Kochi next year. Last week, our company announced closing our Houston office without notice and asked us to relocate to Nashville. We are evaluating various options.
If we decide to move, we could live in a small apartment there until we relocate to India without much furniture. And will have sufficient time to put our home in Houston for sale.
My question is, is it worth moving our furniture to Nashville? Or, we could keep them in storage in Houston to ship to Indian in March 2011.
While considering the moving cost for container from US to Bangalore, which will be cheaper - moving from Houston or moving from Nashville? Or both would be about the same?

My guess is Houston would be cheaper for shipping to India since it is a port compared to Nashville which is inland.
Shipping to Nashville would depend on what furniture you have and if it will fit in the accommodations you are planning for in Nashville. You may also want to leave the furniture in your home in Houston while it is on sale. Houses with good furniture and well staged definitely resonate more with buyers than empty ones.

We just sold most of our stuff including furniture, washing machine etc. Going to have a very simple apartment life for next 8 months in Nashville and then moving to Bangalore for good.
