Was on a chat with a friend of mine, we ended up on movies, while he liked bolly totally, It was not the same with me:
Senior Actors: When will you retire? Its gonna be tough to see Madhuri and Amitab act as teenagers, whats the future of upcoming artists?
Story line: Other than love story, rich-poor, we proudce nothing different, am I wrong?
Thought provokers: There are not many movies which after I leave a theatre leaves an impression on me. There is nothing I can take from it. It takes out the joy when what you visually see is confirmed in terms of dialouges, we dont leave anything for the audience to think. Motivational movies almost zero I think!
Recommendations: It totally s*cks to see siblings/children of senior actors take over, looks soo false!
Do they really represent us? Do they represent the new India ... I dont know, its probably me is there anyone out there thinking like me?

OP,
Either you are in some time warp or haven't followed bollywood recently; Amitabh hasn't acted as young man in recent years. Madhuri is coming back in 'aaja nachale' after 5 years and her role is not of teenager either.
See 'Life in Metro', 'Guru', 'Bheja fry', 'Khosla ka ghosla' etc for outside the formula. So are vid chopra's movies( Munnabhai series and Parineeta).
Hrithik even though is Rakesh Roshan's son is a good (looking)actor on his own merits. So is Kajol (Tanuja's daughter). Abhishek isn't a total dud either.
time warpn. A hypothetical discontinuity or distortion occurring in the flow of time that would move events from one time period to another or suspend the passage of time.

RaReSha3, I prefer to be addressed as cnu instead!
and is that "time warp"? I'm finding it difficult to understand the context. Did you experience this before?
teenagers - Hope you have not taken it by the word. In one of the most recent movies Amitab Bachan was dancing around the streets with young gals singing praises of love. Where was he going with it? Whats entertaining in that?
Regarding Madhuri - I searched the web, did not get the storyline, do you think she will be acting as a middle aged woman?
Life in Metro', 'Bheja fry, 'Khosla ka ghosla' are good, point taken. But they do not constitute many, do they?
Movie Guru - I have my own doubts, its personal choice I suppose!
Hrithik is good, agreed. I have my own doubts about the other two [again it mite be a personal choice].

Bolly movies - are they going anywhere?

First, most of the Bollywood movies people like you and me like are those that are made for the classes not the masses. Unfortunately more movies are made for the masses because they do more business.
Second, most commercial Bollywood movies appeal to only a limted age group: maybe the 15-25 demographic.
Who makes movies on a 35-40 yr old man who cannot get a hot girlfriend and is dealing with mid-life crisis. I mean eventually you'll get there and movies made for the college going crowd won't appeal to you anymore.

No dude ... just saying that if you don't like Bollywood movies it's because you're probably past the age of 25, but Bollywood is still churning out the same stuff.
As i am growing older, i'm finding that the no. of movies i like every year is decreasing consistenly. Maybe by the time i hit 40 ....i may like nothing at all.
Ofcourse when i'm 70 years old, I may revive my interest in Bollywood movies again, coz Amitabh will still be prancing around with hot babes. :emsmilep:

MeraNaseebR2I;53805The golden rule in Bollywood is - lagey raho
Eventually they all turn the crap and send it to us. Its not surprising to see the same masala being released in 3 different movie titles in a 15 days span.

I have stopped taking any interest in Hindi movies altogether because of the lack of variety (save for some exceptions such as "Khosla" and "door"). I only watch movies that are highly recommended and am mostly disappointed with those as well.
Anyhow. I heard that Mithun Da is still active and essentially makes the same movie each time with nearly the same cast and plot. Is this really true or was my friend pulling my leg?
This seems to be a smart business practice which all the producers should employ. They would probably save a lot. The public goes to see the same movie anyway. Why change the actors?

Let's say that India produces 200 movies per language every year. Assuming 10 major movie languages, it is 2000 movies. Of which, I guess there will be 10 movies per language that are very good/different/watchable.
So, 100 good movies per year is actually great.
Sometimes, watching movies without understanding a word, totally relying on subtitles is great.
If not satisfied with desi movies, expand your horizons. Stop by your local library (if in US). Suddenly the whole world is before you. You will discover some unexpected gems. For e.g. would you expect Iran to come up with some classics? (try Jafar Panahi's works - Crimson Gold, White Baloon)

Thanks for recommendation Suri will watch out for those movies.
Have you guys seen Shawshank Redemption? I recommend this one, watched it many times, have a copy and dont mind watching it again too.
Do you guys recommend any movies that I can grab from the video library?

I will get a lotta beatings for what am posting down, but just for once in my life time I will take chance n post this:
* Do those movies for mass, reflect our intellectual capability? [I presume, majority of bolly-goers prefer stereo types over intellectually stimulating?]
* From my experience with bolly movies this is what I found in most of the movies, do you dis-agree with me?:

- Most audience get stimulous cos of those gyrating hips, chest or any other limb movements that hint sexual gestures which is uncommon to find in the day-2-day life or watch an Hollywood movie [no no am not hinting they are vulgar and should be banned]
- Most audience do not get a stimulous until they watch a wife-swap/ rape/ fights / violence which are predominately there, which we may just keep mouth shut in everyday life
- A chance to see foreign countries thru songs
- Re-orient the existing life style to emulate what an ideal hero/heroine/family should look like and make corrections to the existing one :) ?
- Or may be a genuine entertainment - forget all weeks hard labour by watching someone else's pain and feeling we are not just the one, listen to melodious music n dance n story that has only "Entertainment" factor in it
