Would like to hear from ppl with similar profile about their successes/frustrations with job search in India. It seems there is lot of information on this board for people from technology background but not much for non-tech people.

About myself - started looking about 3 yrs back got an offer from a startup PE firm sometime back, even before I could accpet the offer and move the firm closed (internal conflicts and poor market conditions). Decided to stay put and wait for the financial crisis to get over. Now that we have some stability and markets are beginng to look up (atleast in emerging markets) I have started my search again. Expanding search to include corporate jobs too (was looking at PE/VC only initially) and recently talking with BPO of a US based fin svcs firm for Dir Strategy role reporting directly to CEO of the BPO. Salary range is 40-50 L (in Delhi).

I have found that going through a reference works best. So far my success rate with recruiters have been not so good - it is extremely difficult to engage them unless someone knows a recruiter personally and recommends you. In general I have felt that getting your foot inside for an interview is extermely difficult and there there is a general disinterest in NRIs.

Would like to hear from others about their experiences. What straetgy worked best for job hunting in India? What is salary range that others have gotten for similar role?

Another update. As I mentione above I am talking with a BPO of a US based fin svc firm. The salary they are hinting at is 45L. I have not yet started the negotiation process but would like to hear from others on best practices for negotiating in Indian context, relocation expenses, any gotchas, etc. Also I have significant amount of money held back as "clawback" from my yearly bonus and not sure how to negotiate on paying me equivalent amount in options, etc. Any pointers, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you don't have any pre-MBA experience, then this is an exceptional offer.

So, just to clarify: What is your total work-ex (including pre-MBA)?
