I remember one such incident, i was visiting mumbai, after a gap of about 4 years, and when i went there, i noticed that the number of stray dogs on the street had significantly gone up....i juts casually mentioned this to my mom, and said, that you know one very good way of taking care of such animals is having animal shelters and adopting them, like they do in the US......i hadn't even finished my sentence, and she lashed back at me saying, oh yea we know, YOU americans, value animals more than humans..... HUH, what does that have to do with anything ???

Good topic, we should have a separate thread on the status of dogs in India vs. the dogs in US :). I always found it strange that people in US get teary eyed about their pet while relishing meat of other animals. Also they seem to have no qualms about taking away their reproductive rights of their much loved pets.

It is debatable where they are better off.

Far better than idiots who want to 'clean' themselves with Gomutra after touching untouchables.

Is 'ox' a short form of Animal XXX?

An ox (plural oxen), or bullock (Australia, New Zealand, India) is a bovine animal trained as a draft animal. Oxen are commonly adult, castrated male cattle, but cows (adult females) or bulls (entire males) may also be used in some areas. Oxen are used for plowing, transport (pulling carts or wagons or sometimes for riding), threshing grain by trampling, and for powering machines for grinding grain, irrigation or other purposes. Oxen may be used to skid logs in forests, particularly in low-impact select-cut logging. Oxen are usually used in pairs: Light work such as carting on good roads might use one pair, while for heavier work further pairs are added; a team used for a heavy load over difficult ground might exceed twenty animals.

mn_op,
That response was directly related to dog. Why did it become a Gomutra and untouchables now? does this have anything to do with how blacks were treated as worse than dogs before segregation (see, how this digression goes)?

Everyone else,
sorry to digress.

Both peoples are hypocritical and deluded in their own ways.

Ever heard about decimation of aborginals, decimation of native americans, slave trade, holocaust, decimation of natives in south america, vietnam war, korean war, hiroshima & nagasaki? Human populations can be cruel, brutal and oppressive.

More fodder for hijack banter.

Except beeamma, right?

I must say that I find your posts and opinions phony. You keep finding faults with the US (taking away reproductive rights from pets?) and singing praises to Indian culture (saree at office in the US). However, I beleive that you are totally against living in India and I am sure that you would never wear saree to work.

I hope I am wrong and you are actually a person with integrity who says what he/she means and not harp on something meaningless. And no I don't need anoterh link that proves US problems or greed of corporates or whatever.

You need to stick to the topic of the debate as opposed to resorting to personal attacks. Personal attacks dilute the credibility of your argument in the debate.

My thoughts on the status of pets in the US has nothing to do with my decision to r2i.

What would be your opinion about the statement below?

"one very good way of taking care of such animals is having animal shelters and adopting them"

Now, what would be your opinion about the statement below?

Just trying to understand your comments, viz-a-viz, usdesi09's suggestion to her folks about stray animals.

Thanks

I would leave the bit about ...just like it is done in the US.

Present a solution because it will resolve something, not because thats the way it is done in the US.
