As an NRI, I have an NRE account with SBI at an NRI branch in India. For some time, I have been thinking to withdraw some money from my SBI a/c.
Is there a debit card that will allow me to withdraw USD $$ from bank ATM in United States? Should I ask my SBI bank for such a debit card
Has anyone done this here in USA?
Please advise.

NRE accounts are like CD or fixed account for a duration. You will need to close the account or wait for it’s maturity date to close. Check with SBI. There is no debit card for NRE account.
its available for NRO account to withdraw money in Indian currency and not $

Debit cards are available for NRE accounts and NRO accounts at AXIS bank. I have used both to withdraw rupees from ATMs in India. The money is withdrawn from NRE and NRO savings account.

Thanks for the info.
yes Debit cards are available to withdraw INR money in India. But since this is an NRE (for NRI customers) account, I want to use a debit card to withdraw USD $$ from American banks.
Not sure if the same debit card can be used for this purpose. A few years back, I had the SBI branch transfer USD$$ to my USA bank a/c. of course they charged me a fee to do that.
This I want to do it myself using a debit card. That's the question.

To OP,
You should be able to withdraw USD from ATM here in USA but the conversation rate will go against you. Any ATM that has the same logo like master, Visa, Maestro etc will work.

Using ICICI NRE debit card it is possible. SBI should also be possible.

For NRE account, you can get GLOBAL ATM/Debit card and you can use in US but it is not possible with NRO debit cards. NRO debit cards only works in INDIA in rupees.

Thanks friends for all the info.
Vasu123 - I have an International debit & shopping card from SBI. Good to know that we can withdraw USD $$ from USA banks. Never tried to use it here in US before. Assume that the transaction rate would be International currency conversion rate. Is there any other additional bank charge for using this card to shop online from US stores?
Got some useful info.
Thanks a lot
