All,
I have read and received a lot of good advice on being on the ground in INDIA to get a job for senior positions (15+ yrs exp).
I am starting this thread to get responses from people who have "actually" left their current job and are in INDIA looking for a job.
Please do not post a reply to this thread if you have not experienced this scenario yourself.
If you want to provide additional advice (having not been in the scenario of having left the current stable job and moved to INDIA to look for one) I suggest you post your advise to other very good threads present elsewhere in this forum.
Cheers,
NS.

I DID.
Not now, but back in 2006. Infact I took almost 6 months off before I started working. Somehow I had this gut feeling that I could get a job in India.

I know that market has moved on since 2006 but can you briefly give us the key points of your experience trying to find a job once you landed. It would help if you described your profile before you shared your experience.

I did in Mid 2008, peak recession. I left my good job in US and moved to India. Spent a month settlng up family/school admissions etc. Then started looking for a job. Got 2 offers in 3 weeks. Took one and joined. That was during recession. Job market is much better now.

This is really inspiring. I am in a situation that I have a job in US I dont like, as its stagnant, I wish to move back to India soon but am wondering if I resign and go and not land a job in desired city in reasonable time then what to do? Again cushion of having GC is not with me too. But I agree that market has improved and people are saying one has to be physically in India to find one

Now, that you've seen a positive example, here's a negative one.
My BIL was laid off from a top 4 consulting firm a year ago. He was in a senior position over here and because of his Visa issues, his wife also had to resign and leave. They returned to Bangalore where he was actively looking for either same or a better role. His resume was star-studded with an MBA from a top 4 business school in India and a ton of experience from some big names in IT consulting. It took him about 6-7 months to land up a job which he wasn't even satisfied with in the beginning. His biggest drawback, as his interviewers told him, was that he had lack of Indian experience. His confidence took a big hit as he was just one step away from getting to that partner level in his company in the US.
His advise to me was to look for jobs prior to returning. Its all about timing and luck.
