Before I left the US I came across the concept of Storage Pod.
I am planning on changing employment in India and want to start a discussion on the availability of Storage Pods in India. the concept I have in mind is this:
Let us say that I have a house full of furniture & boxes including bedroom set, appliances. I know that movers & packers are good at squeezing all of the items into a container. I would like to do the same with a twist. I want to move this container from IIT KGP to my parents villa in Hyderabad. They have a covered car park space attached to the house & one side wall of the compound - the available space (I have deducted space all around) measures 11' x 11' x 7' (height).
My plan is the follows:
Construct a thick walled, plastic, storage pod such that two opposite vertical faces of the pod will have doors cut out from the plastic wall of the pod. This pod (volume is about 850 cu ft) can be shipped by road from IIT KGP to Hyderabad and placed in the car park space. of my parent's villa. The pod can be pad- locked and secured.
Heck, maybe I have stumbled upon a business idea in India!!!!
Any one have thoughts, suggestions?

I think it is a very good idea! Perhaps consider a change in construction material or use stronger plastics that will ensure peace of mind for potential customers. Not sure if lot of people will buy these but rentals like in the US may work. Throw in added services such as storage depots and transportation to these pod rentals and Voila you have a decent business model.
