Kids getting sick often

Post by spa2 »

Our son has asthma. Bangalore is a terrible place for those with asthma.

Last year he was borderline on school attendance, mostly due to the common ailments (touch wood, thank God!) such as fever, cold, cough, allergy, wheezing, etc. We got a note from the school.

He was borderline on attendance mainly because we didn't want to rush his healing with antibiotics, analgesics, antihistamines, etc. Since the symptoms weren't life-threatening or very serious, we were able to let his body heal mainly through diet, prescribed OTC ayurvedic remedies, and a lot of rest. Only when the situation got unbearable for him, we would notch it up with allopathy.
(Fortunately, we have a very good pediatrician who isn't hot on dosing up kids with allopathic drugs.)

With this approach, a two-day outage would end up being more like a week, but since he is in a lower grade, we didn't have to worry much. Once he grows older, and the body is more stable, yoga and kriyas can help him become more resistant to the common ailment.

But what did happen was that there has been remarkable improvement in the immunity, with hardly any downtime this year. And without having to be on regular drugs.

As a family, now our bodies have become more or less accustomed to the regular water in most restaurants, and we don't insist on "mineral water" unless it is a very dingy joint.

One of our close R2I friends has been feeding "mosambi juice" to his kids every day from early childhood. His kids have rarely had a cold in their lives so far.
