Sai_R2I;347242Here is my POV. I am a SI and would definitely turn 40 down the lane - definitely do not have the body of a celebrity. yeah, I wish - lemme first have the body like an extra (Not with all these extras).. Okie, am digressing - what I am trying to say is - I am gonna say what I gotta say, though I am afraid of all the pouncing/slicing/dicing that may follow....
...
I was so scared to wear a party dress for my son's bday party - I had such a bad body image issue.[/quote]
Better yet! How about a thread to discuss SI women's self-deprecating attitude towards their own body image and dress sense?
Do SI women in general have an issue with their body image? :)
Better question to the women: What do you see when you look in the mirror? :)

Which one, the middle or the side?

Once upon a time when I looked into mirror all that mattered was if I am able to see that radiant confident smile.
But as time flies it did change! I understand what Sai_R2I says.
Women may not feel as much in Indian dresses as they are designed in such a way that they elevate their looks.
I think in western dresses women do tend to become more concious. If I have to classify woman in US, then it would be very lean or very very fat. And most Indian woman fall in the middle range.
Regarding what I see in mirror now....hmmm.... after I see mirror I see my daughter's eyes. If I see a shine then whatever mirror says becomes less important. Mirror lies.
And it is not just about South Indian ladies. Mirror and Women have long time relation.

Hellooo.. how was this conclusion drawn that me having a bad body image had anything to do with my birthplace (since you have spin off this thread from my post)?? Its the birthing process that threw me off the track - the stretch marks, the stretchy skin, weight gain, hair loss, dark undereye circles.. I don't believe that whether women are from SI or NI or Amrika has anything to do with body image issue. Women here in Amrika suffer much more from Bulimia or Anorexia than those from India(be it south or North).. Media is partly to blame, blah blah blah..Angie shows off a post-preg body in 8 weeks.. blah blah blah...
Forget about media, some celebrity, etc.. - Let us take our own dear forum..
willynilly;311136some are 200+ pounders, happily flaunting what their mamma gave them (or maybe Mcdonald's did ) :emdgust:
PeterGriffin;311669Though the petite would like a clothes hanger when they wear it or make the big women look like a LPG gas cylinder (especially if the color of the material is red).
Going_nowhere;311721That's called "cellulite wrapper" for the 300-pound gorillas.

Secondly, if you want to wear tank tops, don't look like a tank! Nobody wants to see a tank top on a tank. I once saw a pretty big desi woman wearing a red sleeveless gown or something. It reminded me of the LPG gas cylinders that we used to refill every month. Sorry for being rude here.
desipardesi;276165I usually preach... if you have it you should flaunt it. :-)
But many desi ladies take it too far. I've a neighbour desi lady , plump like a pumpkin, but walks around in tight shorts every summer. What an eye sore..
PeterGriffin;276320Nobody likes to see Maruthi 800cc tires on a Tata Sumo or the other way around.
...
If a 300 Lb woman wants to wear a 2-piece bikini, sure! go ahead..but let me know where you'll be and i'll be in the diametrically opposite end of the globe.
And you folks wonder why women are so conscious about what they wear!!! Try standing in front of the mirror, wondering if you are gonna be compared to a truck, LPG, Road roller, auntyji, behenji, gorilla, hippo, or what not weird thingie (living or inanimate) - trust me, it is no fun!
oh BTW, PG - I did not mean to pick on you..when I went thro' those threads, it seems like you do have a lot of opinion, especially with fat women - LPG- Red :-)
"Better question to the women: What do you see when you look in the mirror?"
I see my flaws - I think of ways to cover up my flaws (which include shape wear to cinch my waist, makeup to cover my undereye, hair cut to camouflage hair loss).
I feel proud that I am able to pull myself up, and figure out a solution - rather than sulking and getting caught in a downward spiral
Finally, say to myself, "Damn, I look good - $(rew ya all"

When I read this title and saw PG's name associated with it, I immediately thought he started yet another topic on women who are sub inspectors and wear that silly tight khakis incongruously. I just thought PG was upto what he does usually..

And PG was advising some member to login to r2iclub for relaxation. Now let him take a lonely walk in the night....and yes leave the LPG cylinder back :)
