I posted this question earlier too but did not get a response. I am not sure if this is a dumb question. Should both originating city and destination city be the same to share a container with in US to India? Can I share a container with anyone in USA sending to the same city in India around the same time?

For sharing a container, the originating city and destination city need not be the same. If these are same or nearby it works out better but is not a requirement.
