Hello friends,
Finally I decided to move to Bangalore in september. My husband started looking for job in india and he will join us when he will get the job. I am going India with my 8 months old daughter, will ask my mother for some help.
I need your advice regarding how to arrange flat on rent, car on rent with driver for sometime, and basic utilities like water, electricity, internet, phone, gas etc.
What things to take with me from USA specially for my daughter? Are Formula, Gerber baby foods available there ? or Shall I get them from USA?
Any help or advice or info is welcome.
Bangalore is not my home town and this is first time in my life i will do such things by myself.
Thanks

Without knowing you personally, this seems like a big step to me. Some additional things to consider:
+ Do you know wither Hindi OR the local language Kannada??
+ Are you good with bargaining??
+ Do you have local help in Bangalore, assuming that your mother is not really aware of things?? PS: I have heard and seen proof of the fact that many of the older generation have no idea on the developments in the newer localities of Bangalore.
+ What time frame do you have to set up everything??
+ If husband has not found a job, how will the flat location be chosen??
Hopefully, you have already thought about them. An alternate way of doing things might be for you and your husband to go together and work on things together OR in parallel. Sharing the load would be much better.

I will quote what I have heard from friends and I do not have any personal experience with this.
+ If you rent out a flat, information on water, electricity, internet, gas, etc can be obtained from the apartment landlord or some tenants in that flat.
+ I have heard that most of the big name flat operators (Raheja, etc) can help with Rentals via the rental office in the apartment complex itself.
+ Local real estate brokers.
+ Drivers can be hired for appx Re. 7000 pm if you have your own car OR appx Re.250 per day. Renting the car also might come upto Re. 500 per day, plus gas charges. Local taxi stores can help.
It is extremely important to find a trustworthy person via recommendations, etc for the last two items.
Hope that helps in some way.
