Tourist visa to OCI

Post by Ramp8 »

We moved to India 4 months ago.
my son is in tourist visa,
His US passport is expiring in 6 months, so I renewed his passport now.
now I need to apply for OCI.
my question is.,
Can I apply in Bangalore as a New OCI applicant,
he can stay in India for 6 months on tourist visa.,
He has another 1.5 months of stay.,
what do I do?
apply OCi immediately or extend his stay?
please guide me through.

You need to fill in the OCI application online and submit the papers in FRRO office in Shanti Nagar Bangalore. My Mother got an entry visa and applied for OCI after going to Bangalore. She got her OCI in 2 months.

If you do not have Aadhar card, you may have a problem. So you may want to visit the FRRO office first.

You go to Blore FRRO while the visa is still valid. Don’t wait. They will do it in a month or 2. Else, just call them on the phone. They may be hard to get on the line but once you do, they will clarify and give you the right info so that you dont have to visit them at all. They are trying to minimize their footfalls in their office and want people to do everything online.

If your son is not a minor, they will first register him, convert tourist visa to entry visa and then OCI. If he is a minor, it is just conversion. No hassles, there will be only one online application to be filled for all the services.

Key is to apply before current visa expires and his stay exceeds 180 days from entry date.

Aadhar is not required but address proof will be required. If you are living in your own house, then it is easier. If living in a rented place, then notarised copy of your agreement or C-Form from the owner will be required.

Tourist visa to OCI

you havent quoted about urself and ur wife nationality.
i assume it will be indian.

step-1 at bangalore FRRO office, for ur son u need to apply for Tourist visa conversion to X Visa and along
with his recent USA passport.

during that time, u need two set of copies of urself and ur wife's passport copy,
bangalore staying address proof of urself and ur wife.
if staying in a rented place, proof of rental agreement.

Staying address proof of address like EB bills, Telephone bills, Credit card bills, bank statements.
Self declaration from both of you about no object to issue him X visa. i believe u may need to pay rs 5000 for conversion.

post conversion of X visa and receipt of X Visa stamped

Step-2
apply for OCI card (fees will be Rs 15000) for ur son in similar way.
provide self declaration from both of you stating
a) his name is not included in voter id card, his name is not included in the ration card for availing benefits
c) parents india origin proof such as indian passport or oci card along with your passport copy
d) ur son's passport size photo ( photo size matching with USA B1/B2 visa)
e) copy of proof of stay address at Bangalore
Based on the application #, and passport #, Track ur receipt of OCI card approval.
it may take 90 to 120 days.

post oci card approval, visit bangalore FRRO office along with ur son's original USA passport and
have the U visa paper (with life long validity) pasted in the USA passport.
collect new OCI card
