LCL or FCL How to Decide

I have been deciding what to take and what to sell here. Especially the furniture.
Based on that I came up with a list and got a quote from Universal relocations from Mr. Dattani. he has advised me to take FCL which is $5575 plus insurance door to door deliver. looks expensive to me. Here is the list
1) Sofa (6.5 x 3x 3)
2) Love seat (5 x 3 x 3)
3) Coffee Table
4) 2 End Tables
5) King Size Head Board and Foot Board (No mattress)
6) Dresser Mirror
7) End Tables
8) 50in TV
9) 20-25 Boxes (2.5 x 2.5 x1.5)
10) Miscellaneous items like Picture Frames.
11) Refrigerator (side by side door)

I have seen posts and people have taken more than this in a LCL. Can the experienced people put some insight depending on the list I have provided. Is the refrigerator making it to go to FCL.

Is the duty predtermined or it is just a quote that the companies gives. All my stuff is 3 years old and I can produce receipts.

Please guide me so as to determine whether to sell off things here take it with me. I am in the favor of selling of things but my wife is not. Let me know. Thank you all so much.

we often use a cube sheet to estimate the total cubic feet of a shipment (i will email you one shortly). If your shipment is over 400-500 cft, it would be advisable to send it as fcl. Your location is also important when looking at lcl option. if you were in ny/nj or ca it is easier to consolidate your shipment with others going to India. From FL to ship lcl is not a viable option if the mover has to bring it to ny/nj.

customs duty depends on the goods that you ship and whether you ship dutiable goods or not. A mover has no control on the amount of duty that may be levied on a particular shipment in India and this cost is generally excluded from a movers quote.

generally, people who are not shipping much furniture and are shipping mainly boxes tend to ship lcl. furniture does not tend to travel well as lcl and the risk of damage is very high. therefore if shipping lots of big furniture such as sofas, beds, dressers, etc. it is advisable to go for the fcl route.

selling the items vs shipping them is always a dilemma and best decided between the husband and wife :wink. i hope this helps you in your decision.

If the things you are planning to ship are in good condition than I would ship them because you will not get good price if you try to sell them. If your total from all the furniture is worth twice the cost of the shipping than I would say you are better of shipping them otherwise it is not worth shipping just try to sell them in US itself.
