I was reading about day care center in bangalore and how they mistreat children there in one of the day cares. What surprises me in India is that I personally feel absolutely no recourse to law and order, in fact if someone tries to go to law(court or any other law enforcing agency) one will be more tensed, the police and ministers(goondas) are hand in glove, I know in hyderabad some big restaurants are also owned by ministers or their kin, can someone dare to report any issues. same is the situation i guess in other cities too.
Whenever its a situation where one requires to go to law one starts with a permise "what is the use", whether it is doctor malpracticing, lawyer malpracticing, schools asking for donations, govn officers incl income tax commissioner, sales tax, customs , etc etc all asking and doing things by taking bribe.
What is left or can we ever regain the respect that law otherwise should hold in India?

I sense your despondency.
But, if you look hard enough, there are ordinary everyday people fighting extra-ordinary battles to enforce their rights as a citizen.
Of course, it is very effective if you fight it as an organization, then as an individual.
5th pillar is one such organization that is empowering everyone to fight for their rights against corruption. check out their website www.5thpillar.org and their yahoo forums for several success stories.
Here is a recent newspaper article that chronicles their success.

The situation is definitely worrying. There seems to be individuals who are fighting this battle against corruption. The bulk of the society seem to accept it as inevitable.
A general awakening must happen amongst the public as this can be resolved only collectively and not individually. Salary structures for government employees including police should be raised to decent levels; also the government should be trimmed leaving it to focus more on governing and less on directing public utilities.
Punishments to official caught under corruption must be made faster and severe to serve as a deterrent.

Question is who would do that, who would raise salaries to the level that it becomes a deterrent not to do corruption,
I feel corruption is both ways , it is due to the need at times and it is also a morality factor, Officials who are very rich think of ministers how much they have but it then becomes a habit to earn more and more without the need for it. Moreover corruption also goes beyond money at times, if a ministers son car hits a passerby what would happen? now where is money involved? it is fear and lack of morality with both ministers and police too.

You are probably correct. I think majority don't have the money, time or resources to fight against corruption. And even if some one did; the amount of support from Law enforcing agencies could be bad. The ground realities could be a little different also now but somewhere we need to make a start.
